Devrais is the conditional present form of the verb devoir (must, have to, owe).

It means “I should” or “you should.”

USAGE

It expresses advice, recommendation, or a softened obligation.

"Je devrais partir." (I should leave),

"Tu devrais dormir." (You should sleep),

"Je devrais étudier plus." (I should study more).

It can also express uncertain or hypothetical duty:

"Je devrais avoir le temps." (I should have time)

TRAPS

__Do not confuse devrais with:__

*dois* (present: I must / I have to) → stronger obligation

*devais* (imperfect: I had to / was supposed to)

*devrai* (future: I will have to)

__Be careful:__

je *dois* = obligation

je *devrais* = advice / softer obligation
